I got in contact with John Stainton in September 2025 through a recommendation, and I'm really glad I did. I was booked in for a lesson the following week, and out on the main road within the first two lessons which genuinely surprised me, but it set the tone for how quickly we would and could progress. Because I was also working, flexibility mattered, and John was great about it. We built a schedule that fitted around my job (sorry for sleeping through a few of our lessons, John!) Working through the modules, John was consistently patient. I have a tendency to get quite worked up when I make a mistake, but he never made a big deal of it he'd just talk me through it calmly and give clear guidance until I had it. We drove all over Ramsbottom, Bury and Heywood so I'd get proper coverage of the kind of roads and situations to expect on test day. Towards the end, he gave me a say in what the lessons were and which areas I wanted more practice on. John's knowledge of the roads, route changes and local layout is great and it rubbed off. By the end of our time together I was spotting things and pointing them out before he could. I was nervous going into the test even though we'd covered everything, but I put what I'd learnt into practice and it paid off. I passed 10th August 2026 with 2 minors: First time My advice for anyone taking their test would be to stay calm, it’s easy to make a mistake when you’re thinking and taking in a lot of information. If you do make a mistake, with proper planning you have time to correct it. Left is best! Highly recommend John to anyone learning in the Bury area.
