Heaton and Markland Hill: west Bolton, BL1

Heaton sits on the west side of Bolton in BL1, with Markland Hill, Chorley New Road, and Ladybridge Lane as the named local problems. It is not Harwood. It is not BL2. Lessons for people who live in Heaton should start with Heaton’s hills, tree-lined residential constraints, and the faster Chorley New Road corridor, then join the rest of Bolton toward Weston Street. Copying the Harwood street list onto this page would be a doorway. This page exists so that does not happen.

Chorley New Road is a wide, busy radial where lane choice and speed-limit changes matter. Markland Hill adds gradient and parked vehicles. Ladybridge Lane is a narrower residential link that punishes poor meeting decisions. Weston Street remains the usual practical centre. The drive from Heaton toward the centre is west-to-east Bolton work, not the BL2 village loop used on the Harwood page.

We do not claim unpublished test routes. We do use these public roads because Heaton residents already drive them. Manual learners get clutch work on Markland Hill. Automatic learners still have to judge the same gaps. Nervous beginners can stay off Chorley New Road until they can narrate what they will do at the next junction.

Pick-up and neighbouring areas

Door-to-door pick-up covers Heaton and Markland Hill residential streets. Neighbouring Ladybridge, Lostock and Bolton town have their own pages. If you live in Lostock, use Lostock.
